Not all beef patties are created equal, especially those that aren’t labeled correctly. Pride Foods in Florida is recalling approximately 116,404 pounds of beef pattie and chub products due to misbranding of an undeclared allergen, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). While the recalled product doesn’t list it among the ingredients, an FSIS inspector found soy was left off of the list.

The following recalled products bear the establishment number ‘EST. 18506’ inside the USDA Mark of Inspection and were produced between December 1, 2012 and August 27, 2013:

– 10-lb. cases of 3, 4, and 6 oz. ‘Savory Beef Patties.’ These products were exported to the Bahamas and distributed throughout the Caribbean.
– 10-lb. cases of 4 oz. ‘Beef Patties.’ This product was exported to the Bahamas and distributed throughout the Caribbean.
– 24-lb. cases of 1 lb. ‘Beef Pattie Mix’ chubs. This product was distributed to a food bank in Pennsylvania.

While there have been no reported allergic reactions due to the mislabeling the FSIS is considering this a Class I Recall, which means, “this is a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.” If you or a family member are concerned about a possible reaction you are urged to contact your physician.
